Care Bears is a 60-episode animated series (1985-1988) based on the American Greetings toy and greeting-card franchise, produced first by DIC and later by Nelvana.
The bears live in Care-a-Lot and go on caring missions against villains such as Professor Coldheart and No Heart.
In Israel it aired on Channel 1 (1986-1989) and later on Arutz HaYeladim, Fox Kids and Junior.
The Hebrew theme was sung by Shmulik Kloiskey; the original Hebrew dub was produced and directed by Shafira Zakai.
Plot
The Care Bears live among the clouds in Care-a-Lot. Each bear has a unique trait shown as a symbol on its tummy.
With the Care Bear Cousins and friends they set out on caring missions around the world, while various villains try to stop them.
In the first season the main villain is Professor Coldheart and his aide Frostbite.
In later seasons No Heart appears with his henchmen Beastly and Shreeky.
Characters
Among the main bears: Tenderheart, Funshine, Grumpy, Cheer, Friend Bear, Good Luck Bear, Love-a-Lot Bear, Wish Bear, Bedtime Bear, Birthday Bear, and the cubs Baby Hugs and Baby Tugs and Grams Bear.
Alongside them are the Care Bear Cousins - animals with heart symbols, including Brave Heart (lion), Bright Heart (raccoon), Lotsa Heart (elephant), and others.
On the villainous side: Professor Coldheart and Frostbite in season one; No Heart, Beastly, and Shreeky in later seasons.
The Hebrew version
In Israel the series aired on Channel 1 from 1986 to 1989. Later seasons with a refreshed dub ran on the Kids Channel, and it also aired on Fox Kids and Junior.
Shmulik Kloiskey performed the theme song.
The original Hebrew dub was produced and directed in the mid-1980s by Shafira Zakai.

Production
The franchise began with American Greetings greeting cards and designs by Elena Kucharik, and grew into toys, TV specials, and feature films.
The TV series was first produced by DIC (1985) and then by Nelvana (1986-1988). Like many 1980s shows, it also helped promote the toy line.
