Chaverim Metzuyarim ("Animated Friends") was a children's VHS brand distributed in Israel in the 1990s. Under the label came a large selection of cartoons and kids' shows, mostly Hebrew-dubbed titles from the 1980s and early 1990s.

Tapes were sold under a distinctive logo - white Hebrew lettering inside an inverted red triangle - and advertised as a selection of TV series on video for home purchase.

Promotional materials also name IAC / Arie Saban.

Tapes and catalog

The Chaverim Metzuyarim catalog included dozens of titles.

Some tapes were dedicated to one series with several episodes; compilation tapes were also released.

Series identifiable from promos and advertising include Binba, The Bold Little Airplane, C.O.P.S. Dennis the Menace, Alice in Wonderland, The Smurfs, Mrs. Pepper Pot, The Shoe People, Pinocchio, Maya the Bee, Hello Spencer, The Gummi Bears, Makori and Friends, Grimm Fairy Tales, Kid Video, Popples, Snorks, The Water Spider, Roni and Litl, Super Mario Bros.

Peter Pan, The Wizard of Oz, Hush-Hush the Detective, Professor Balthazar, Pif and Hercules, Macron 1, Katkatim, Duvshonim, Muppet Stories, Sammy the Squirrel, Beverly Hills Teens and Abirei HaOr HaKasum, among others.

Specific branded tapes are also documented-for example a C.O.P.S. release with the episodes "Soapha the Biionic Dog" and "Robot Crimes."

In addition to single-series tapes, compilation releases are documented, including an item titled "Chaverim Metzuyarim-First Collection."

Advertising

Chaverim Metzuyarim was marketed through promos and commercials on VHS releases.

A period ad shows a large selection of available box covers alongside the line "A selection of TV series on video for individual purchase."

Promotional material also names IAC-Arie Saban.

Those ads and promos now document much of the catalog because they display dozens of tapes offered for sale together.

Openings and promos

Tapes included Chaverim Metzuyarim promotional segments showcasing other series and releases from the catalog.

Several versions of the brand promo were used over the years.

Some survived on VHS and were later uploaded online, helping identify series and tapes that were part of the line.

Name and logo

Source materials spell the brand "Chaverim Metzuyarim" with a full double-yod spelling.

The familiar logo was an inverted red triangle with white "Chaverim Metzuyarim" lettering inside.

The brand is also known with the modern spelling "Chaverim Metzuyarim" (single yod).

Nostalgia and collecting

As VHS faded from home use, Chaverim Metzuyarim tapes became nostalgia and collector items.

Original tapes, plus recordings of bundled promos and ads, were kept by collectors and shared online over the years.

Israeli articles on VHS collecting have listed Chaverim Metzuyarim tapes among sought-after releases.
