G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero is an American military science-fiction animated series produced by Sunbow Productions and Marvel Productions, based on Hasbro's toy line and the Marvel Comics series.

It began with two five-part mini-series in 1983-1984, then ran as a syndicated series from 1985 to 1986 - about 95 episodes including the mini-series.

An elite special-missions force battles the terrorist organization Cobra.

In Israel it was known as כוח המחץ, dubbed into Hebrew, and aired on Channel 1 (1988-1989) and Channel 2 (1991).

What is the show about?

G.I. Joe is the code name of a special mission force fighting Cobra.

Duke, Flint, Scarlett, Lady Jaye, Snake Eyes and others stop plot after plot - teleport devices, weather weapons, and the cloning of Serpentor.

The show was built to sell toys: almost every character got a spotlight episode.

In Europe it was rebranded Action Force.

Israel broadcast and dub

The series and mini-series were dubbed into Hebrew (except the first mini-series) and aired on Channel 1 in 1988-1989, then Channel 2 in 1991. The later DIC continuation was not shown in Israel at the time.

Mini-series and movie

Four five-part mini-series led into the regular run (1983-1986). A 1987 animated movie went straight to video after other Hasbro theatrical cartoons underperformed.

Lyrics

Opening theme lyrics
Yo Joe!
He'll fight for freedom wherever there's trouble
G.I. Joe is there
G.I. Joe, a real American hero!
G.I. Joe is there!

It's G.I. Joe against Cobra the enemy, fighting to save the day
He never gives up, he's always there
Fighting for freedom over land and air
G.I. Joe, a real American hero!
G.I. Joe is there!

G.I. Joe is the code name for America's daring, highly trained special mission force.
Its purpose: to defend human freedom against Cobra,
a ruthless terrorist organization determined to rule the world.
