Kadur Pore'ach (Hot Air Balloon) was the Kids Channel (Arutz HaYeladim) daily live summer strip during July-August, 1993-2005 - 13 summer seasons.
Early years were billed as the channel’s summer day-camp: short live studio blocks (~10 minutes) from morning to midday, with cartoons and acquired kids shows between them.
It paralleled the school-year strip HaKita HaMeofefet, but had its own studio and theme song.
It grew out of a May 1993 teachers’ strike and the live-studio experiment “HaUniversita HaKtana.” From 1994 the year was part of the title (Kadur Pore'ach 94', and so on). Memorable beats include the virtual alien Pepa (1996), the bat puppet Freddy (1997), traveling “Ir Arutz HaYeladim” shows, the 2001 “pick a host” contest, the premiere of HaPijamot (2003), and Masa Kayitz (2004). Hami Rodner sang the original theme; from 2001 a new camping-themed opening replaced it.
What was it?
A live Kids Channel summer strip: hosts in studio, games, guests and mixed educational/entertainment bits, with cartoons and acquired shows between blocks.
It was TV day-camp for the big vacation - a daily format for the whole summer, not a single scripted series.
How it started
During a ~10-day teachers’ strike in May 1993 the channel switched to live studio (“HaUniversita HaKtana”). That summer they kept the format under a vacation brand - and Kadur Pore'ach launched.
Moments people still remember
Virtual alien Pepa (1996), bat puppet Freddy (1997), traveling Kids Channel City shows, games like Shared Building and Manhos, the 2001 host contest that chose Miki Geva and Dana Marmor, HaPijamot’s premiere day (2003), and Masa Kayitz (2004).
