The Magic School Bus is an American animated science-education series based on Joanna Cole and Bruce Degen's books (Hebrew books: Tripit HaPla'im / Ramona Di-Nur). It aired on PBS from 1994 to 1997 for 4 seasons and 52 episodes.

Ms. Frizzle takes her class on impossible field trips aboard a magic bus. In Israel it aired in Hebrew on Arutz HaYeladim (1996-1999), then Logi, with dub direction by Anat Niv (season 1) and Moran Lachish (seasons 2-3).

About the series

Ms. Valerie Frizzle is an unconventional sixth-grade teacher.

With her imaginary assistant Liz the lizard and the magic school bus, she takes her class on impossible field trips: inside the digestive system, inside a cloud, on the ocean floor, into space, and more.

Each episode covers a science topic - magnetism, weather, the solar system, the human body - blending humor, imagination, and hands-on adventure for young viewers.

At the end of every episode, short "phone call" segments feature real children asking additional science questions.

Characters

Ms. Frizzle - the bold, unconventional teacher.

Dorothy Ann - one of the students; sometimes "she didn't say it would happen."

The sixth-grade class - including Arnold, Keesha, Phoebe, Ralphie, Tim, Wanda, Carlos, and Janet.

Liz - Frizzle's lizard, who sometimes drives the bus.

The Magic School Bus - a central character in its own right, able to change size and shape.

In Israel

The Magic School Bus aired in Israel in Hebrew on the Kids Channel from 1996 to 1999, and later on Logi.

Before the TV series, Hebrew editions of the books were popular in Israel as Tripit HaPla'im, Ramona Di-Nur's translation of the original book series.

Hebrew dub direction: Anat Niv (season 1), Moran Lachish (seasons 2 and 3).

Among the voice actors: Miki Kam and Effi Ben Israel as Ms. Frizzle (in different seasons); Talia Barkai as Dorothy Ann; and additional cast documented on Hebrew Wikipedia.

Production

The TV series was produced by Scholastic Entertainment with Nelvana, based on the children's books published since 1986.

It aired on PBS Kids from 11 September 1994 to 8 December 1997, for four seasons and 52 episodes.

In 2017 the follow-up The Magic School Bus Rides Again (Hebrew: The Magic School Bus Rides Again) premiered, with JoJo Frizzle - Valerie's sister - teaching a new class.
